What is the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System and how does it work?
The LoJack® product is a battery operated, stolen vehicle recovery system that helps law enforcement to track and recover your stolen vehicle. A LoJack® Unit is hidden in your vehicle by a certified technician and your vehicle is registered in the LoJack database. When you file a stolen vehicle report with law enforcement and the theft is recorded in the national stolen vehicle database, law enforcement computers send a silent radio signal to your car. If your vehicle is within a LoJack coverage area, the LoJack Transceiver in your stolen vehicle can be automatically activated, allowing law enforcement to track and recover your vehicle.
Is my LoJack System always “on”?
Your LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is always in receiving mode, ready to be activated by a silent signal from law enforcement computers. Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.
How do I know if my LoJack® System is working?
Your LoJack® Unit is tested and certified at the time of installation. We then recommend an inspection of your LoJack® System every two years. Inspections cost $99* and can be arranged by calling 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225). Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.

What do I do if I believe my LoJack® System requires service?
Call us at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to schedule an inspection of your LoJack® Unit or to talk to a Customer Service Representative who can answer any questions you may have. For faster service, please make sure you have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the time of the call. Your VIN number is located on your LoJack I.D. card or on your vehicle registration.
Does my car need to be running for the LoJack® System to work?
No. The LoJack® Unit may draw a very small amount of power from your vehicle’s battery. Should your battery be disconnected, the LoJack System’s battery will provide power.
What should I do if my vehicle is stolen?
If your vehicle is stolen, report the theft immediately to law enforcement in the city or town where it was stolen. Once you’ve completed a stolen vehicle report, law enforcement can automatically activate the LoJack® Unit in your vehicle (LoJack® Unit activation is contingent on vehicle being located within a LoJack coverage area). After you contact law enforcement, you may call a LoJack Customer Service Representative at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to notify us of the theft.
If you purchased an Extended Limited Warranty and you need to file a claim, please call 1-800-4-LoJack (1-800-456-5225).
If you purchased a Protection Plus 5000 or a Motorcycle Recovery Plus 5000, and your vehicle was stolen and not recovered within 30 days, or recovered but deemed a total loss, please refer to your original policy for the appropriate contact information of your administrator. If you do not have your original paperwork, please call 1-800-4-LoJack (1-800-456-5225) and a LoJack Customer Service Representative can assist you further.
What should I do if my vehicle is involved in an accident?
If your vehicle sustains damage as a result of an accident, you should call us at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to schedule an inspection of your LoJack® System. This inspection is required in order to maintain your warranty coverage and to ensure your LoJack® System is in working condition. Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.
What happens when I sell my vehicle? Can I transfer my LoJack® System to my new vehicle?
Your LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is not transferable from one vehicle to another as the serial number on your LoJack® Unit is registered to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your vehicle. However, a LoJack® System may enhance your vehicle’s resale value.
What should I do if I purchased a vehicle that already has a LoJack® System in it?
If the vehicle you purchased is equipped with a LoJack® System, please follow these steps so we can register the LoJack® System in your name.
- Print and fill out a hard copy of the Owner Information Form.
- Make a copy of your vehicle’s registration and your driver’s license.

How do I get my proof of installation form for my insurance company?
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System may save you money on your comprehensive insurance premiums. For more information on eligibility, talk to your insurance agent. Register with LoJack at my.lojack.com or by calling 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225). Upon confirmation of your LoJack registration, a proof of installation form for your insurance company will be made available to you via PDF download or US mail. Please allow up to three weeks for processing and delivery.
Can car thieves find my LoJack® Unit and beat the system?
The LoJack® Unit is very small—about the size of a deck of cards—so it can be hidden in as many as 20 different places in your vehicle. This makes it very difficult for thieves to find your LoJack® System.
Why is there no exterior marking on the vehicle stating it has a LoJack® System – wouldn’t a LoJack® sticker act as a theft deterrent?
One of the major benefits of the product is that the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is covert. A thief does not know whether or not your vehicle is equipped with a LoJack® System. This increases the likelihood of rapid recovery with minimal damage.

Is the LoJack® System easy to use?

How is the LoJack® Product different from other systems?
LoJack® offers the only Stolen Vehicle Recovery System directly integrated with federal, state and local law enforcement. It is based on wireless Radio Frequency technology. From ground or air, law enforcement can track the silent signal from your LoJack® Unit whether it is in a garage, an underground parking facility, or in a warehouse. This differs from most GPS-based tracking systems, which require direct line-of-sight to their satellites.
Is the LoJack® Product a high-end alarm system?
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is not an alarm system. Alarms can be disabled quickly by an experienced thief, reducing their effectiveness. They also do not provide a way for your stolen vehicle to be tracked and recovered.
Are there different LoJack® Systems?
LoJack Products include the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, which helps law enforcement track and recover your vehicle after you report it stolen, and the LoJack Early Warning® System, which is an additional layer of protection on top of the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System. In fact, some insurance companies offer significant savings off the comprehensive portion of your insurance premium for equipping your vehicle with a LoJack® System and an alarm. The one-time cost for a LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System has an MSRP of $695. A LoJack® System with Early Warning, which notifies you if your car is moved without your Key Pass present, has an MSRP of $995.
