LoJack® System Helps Fullerton Police Department Recover Stolen Nissan Quest

On November 11, 2014, the owners of a 2007 Nissan Quest contacted the Fullerton Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. On September 2014, the owners took their vehicle to a mechanic shop in the city of Fullerton for repairs. When the owners went to retrieve their vehicle on November 11, they found the shop had closed for failing to pay rent and the mechanic disappeared with their vehicle.
Fullerton PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan Quest.
Only 32 minutes later officers from Anaheim PD picked up the silent LoJack signals from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential street in the city of Placentia. Anaheim PD notified Fullerton PD that they had located the vehicle. Fullerton PD detectives responded and set up a surveillance of the vehicle.
About two hours later a male subject entered the vehicle and made a U-turn. The detectives conducted a felony stop and detained the subject. The subject provided a false name but admitted to being the mechanic. The subject also admitted he did not have permission from the owners of the vehicle to be driving their vehicle. The subject was subsequently arrested for the theft of the vehicle and was found to have multiple warrants when his true identity was discovered.
