CANTON, Mass., Nov. 21, 2014 — In anticipation of the holidays, LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ: LOJN) has announced its top tips that can help protect vehicles from theft during the upcoming season, a proven time of increased crime. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), there were more than 21,000 reported stolen vehicles during the months of November and December 2012.
During the holiday season, it’s important to take extra measures that can help protect your vehicle and property by following these safety tips from LoJack:
- Be thankful for safe parking: Parking in well-lit parking lots or safe driveways can make it difficult for thieves to break into your car.
- Hide purchases/gifts out of plain sight: Remember to conceal valuables and lock your car, no matter where you are. Although it might seem like common sense, expensive goods and gifts stored in your vehicle may give car thieves added motive to break in.
- Beware of “Puffers”: Never leave your car running or unattended. A “puffer” is a common term for thieves who go around looking and stealing unattended, and running, Although it might be tempting to leave your car unattended and running to warm up in the colder months, a vacant car is an easy target for thieves.
- Protection for all: Using a stolen vehicle recovery system will provide peace-of-mind knowing that your vehicle can be recovered in case of theft.
