LAPD Officers Use LoJack to Recover Stolen Scion XB, Stolen Motorcyles — 1 Arrested for Chop Shop

On January 7, 2013, the owners of a 2011 Scion XB contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department-San Dimas Station to report that their vehicle was stolen.
LASD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Scion.
Minutes later, LAPD-Devonshire Division patrol officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Scion on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of 9000 block of Hazletine. The vehicle was located parked in a driveway. Officers observed a suspect enter the stolen vehicle and drive from the location. A felony traffic stop was made and the suspect was taken into custody for Grand Theft Auto without incident. Officers conducted a follow up investigation at the residence and recovered two stolen motorcycles – a 2007 Suzuki GS XR 600 ($5,675), and a 2000 Kawasaki ZX 9R, ($3,080) – one of which was being stripped.
This investigation is still ongoing, and has been classified as a Chop Shop (#449 for LoJack Operations southern California). The total value of this recovery is $22,640.
