California Police Recover Stolen 2011 Honda Accord Assisted by the LoJack® System

Keeping a spare key inside the vehicle it belongs to is not a great idea, as the Los Angeles, CA resident in this case discovered. A crook had smashed the window of the victim’s 2011 Honda Accord, looking for anything of value, found the key and ended up stealing the car. What this thief didn’t know (because he couldn’t see it) is that he also stole the LoJack® system installed in the Accord, so local police were able to track down the car and apprehend him.
On November 2nd, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted local police in Devonshire to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Accord, which was installed at Miller Honda in Van Nuys, CA.
A short time later, patrol officers from North Hollywood picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol units. The officers began tracking the stolen Honda, and discovered it traveling on Gilmore Street. The officers stopped the car and the suspect took off but was quickly captured and arrested. The Accord was soon returned to its relieved owner.
