Houston, Texas Police and US Postal Inspectors Recover Stolen 2013 Audi A7 and Other Stolen Vehicles Assisted by the LoJack® System

The LoJack® system is designed to help law enforcement track and recover stolen vehicles. Sometimes, when officers locate a stolen car, truck, van or motorcycle, they will uncover additional criminal activity. Recently, in Houston, TX, the retrieval of a LoJack protected 2013 Audi A7 resulted in the discovery of two other stolen luxury vehicles and the break-up of an auto theft fraud scheme.
A group of individuals in the Houston, TX area formed a fictitious company with intent to commit fraud by purchasing high end vehicles with fraudulent information, stolen identities and wire fraud. On October 4th, 2013, US Postal Inspectors confirmed the Audi’s information with Houston Police and Houston postal investigators, and the car’s VIN (vehicle identification number) was entered into the NCIC national vehicle theft computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the A7, which was installed at Audi Porsche West in Houston, TX.
A short while later, the Texas State Police helicopter IDAHO 11 picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in the aircraft. The flight crew directed ground troopers to a private residence in Katy, where the Audi, valued at $86,000, was parked in the driveway. There were two other stolen luxury vehicles at the home, with a total value of $265,000. The person at the location was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
