On July 3, 2012, the owner of a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen in San Diego. San Diego officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Volkswagen.

Within three hours, officers from the San Diego Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Volkswagen on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential neighborhood in the 1600 block of Moorland Street in San Diego.

The owner was very happy when officers contacted him to retrieve the vehicle, which was recovered abandoned and undamaged.  The vehicle was valued at approximately $20,000.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Volkswagen Touareg in September of 2008 at Mercedes Benz of San Diego.
