Fort Worth Police Utilize Powerful LoJack® Radio Frequency (RF) Technology to Recover a Stolen BMW 335i

A LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System uses Radio Frequency (RF) technology to track and recover stolen vehicles. Because RF signals are so strong and do not require line of sight with any satellites or cell towers, the LoJack system can track vehicles in places where GPS and cellular devices can’t.

The LoJack system can find your car even if it’s hidden in a heavily wooded area, a container on a ship, or in this case a parking garage.

On January 31, 2013, the owner of a 2007 BMW 335I contacted the Fort Worth Texas Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from a parking lot.

The Fort Worth Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the BMW.

A short time later, officers from the Dallas Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen BMW on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles and tracked the vehicle to an above-ground parking garage in downtown Dallas. Officers were able to continue to track this stolen BMW and found it parked on the sixth floor.  The parking garage security told officers that they have video of the suspect driving this stolen BMW into the garage.  This remains an ongoing investigation.

This stolen BMW, valued at $27,975, was recovered with no damage.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 BMW in January of 2007 at BMW of San Diego.
