On September 10, 2012 the caretaker of a 1999 Ford F-350 contacted the Livonia Police Department to report  that the vehicle was stolen from a job site over the weekend. The vehicle is owned by a Michigan based construction company that equips all of their trucks, trailers, vans and commercial equipment with LoJack. The stolen truck also had a Sullair Air Compressor permanently attached to the bed of the truck.

The Livonia Police verified the theft and entered the truck’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the truck. A short while later, members of the ACTION Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the truck with the Police Tracking Computers installed in their cruisers.

Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the  police located the stolen truck in the driveway of an abandoned residence in Detroit. It appeared that the suspects had left the truck there to “cool off”. The task force set up surveillance on the stolen truck, however the suspects never returned to claim it.

Because of the fast recovery the only damage to the truck was to the ignition and the suspects were unable to strip the vehicle. The ACTION Task Force is still investigating.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in October 2006. The construction company is once again happy that LoJack aided law enforcement in recovering their property and they continue to have all of their assets protected by LoJack.
