For any of our contractor readers, especially, you could sympathize for a business owner who’s equipment fails to work or, even worse, is stolen.  It can lead to significant business downtime among many other headaches.  On Monday, July 30th, the owner of a 2003 Ingersoll-Rand Skid Steer contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report that their equipment was stolen from a job site in Northwest Las Vegas.  Fortunately, it was equipped with LoJack.

Minutes after entering the equipment as stolen, officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signals coming from the stolen equipment on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officer’s tracked the stolen Skid Steer to a large warehouse building in North Las Vegas.

Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Construction Theft Detail” also arrived to assist with a search warrant. Police quickly located the stolen Skid Steer inside the warehouse, but were surprised to also find a stolen Air Compressor that had been reported stolen back in April from a job site in Downtown Las Vegas. They also located 30 “A-Frame” road closure signs belonging to Clark County Department of Public Works, Las Vegas Valley Water District and the State of Nevada Department of Transportation. The suspect who has been identified is facing multiple felony charges as the investigation continues with police still identifying more victims.

The time the equipment was reported stolen to the time it was recovered: 59 minutes! Not a lot of downtime for this particular Skid Steer owner!
