The owners of a 2011 Caterpillar Skid Steer contacted the Folsom Police Department to report that their tractor was stolen. The victim indicated the tractor was taken from a job site in the City of Folsom sometime over the weekend and was discovered when the employees returned to work on Monday morning.

The Folsom PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Skid Steer tractor. Less than 5 minutes later officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Caterpillar with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the unit to the area of Antelope and Mariposa Streets in Citrus Heights. The officers observed the tractor on a trailer that was hooked up behind a Ford F550 flatbed truck. The officers verified the Caterpillar was in fact the stolen unit and then questioned the person associated with the truck. During the investigation it was determined the VIN plates on both the truck and the trailer had been tampered with. The suspect was arrested and booked for auto theft and receiving stolen property. The skid steer, truck and trailer were all impounded.

The next day Investigators from the CHP auto theft unit responded to the tow company and verified the identity of the truck and trailer. The results are the Ford F550 was reported stolen in the City of Roseville and the Land Trail trailer was reported stolen from the City of Folsom.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Caterpillar Skid Steer in September 2011 by Commercial / Direct Sales.
