LoJack’s Best Luxury Vehicle Recovery Stories of All Time

LoJack has had some incredible recovery stories over the course of its 25+ years. Below are the luxury vehicle recoveries that stand out most.

LoJack System Helps Police Bust Massive Global Theft Ring

A California-based Lexus dealer who installed LoJack units on his cars notified police that a vehicle was fraudulently purchased from his dealership. Authorities activated the transponder in the vehicle and within three hours located the car inside a cargo container at the Port of Los Angeles. The detectives also recovered a second container with two more vehicles and determined that two additional containers had already left the country.

After a lengthy investigation, authorities found eight vehicles, made five arrests and have several warrants pending. Thanks to LoJack, they managed to dismantle a theft ring that had been responsible for the theft of 67 high-end vehicles worth approximately $4.5 million, as well as an additional 300 vehicles stolen from across the country over a three-year period.

LoJack Helps Police Crack International Auto Theft Ring

While driving in Long Beach, Alhambra (CA), police picked up a LoJack signal from a stolen 1999 Mercedes ML320 and tracked it to the Hanjin terminal.  With the help of Los Angeles Port Police  along  with other authorities, the Mercedes and a 1999 Cadillac were recovered from a shipping container. Police were able to find four cars that were en route to China; they were recovered along with at least

10 other vehicles and information about the location of another 41 stolen  high-end  vehicles  with a value of $1,710,000

LoJack Proves to be Valuable Across European Borders

In July of 2007, LoJack’s French licensee was notified that a customer had had his Lamborghini Gallardo stolen while he was vacationing on the eastern coast of Italy. Thieves had broken into the house where the owner was vacationing and, using sleeping gas to subdue the victim, stolen the keys to his Lamborghini. LoJack’s French counterpart immediately reported the theft to LoJack Italia, which then activated the LoJack Recovery System. Through the LoJack system, Italian police located the vehicle on a highway leading from Rome to Naples. Italian State Patrol seized the vehicle and arrested two thieves.

LoJack Tracks a Corvette and a Recent  Ex-Con

Less than an hour after a 1998 LoJack-equipped Chevrolet Corvette was stolen from a Dallas dealership, police officers were able to locate the vehicle in a fast food restaurant parking lot. The subject had been paroled from Huntsville State Prison that same day and was immediately taken back into custody.

 400th Chop Shop in Southern California Busted by LoJack

Within three minutes of activation, Long Beach, CA, police   officers detected a LoJack signal that led them to the recovery of a 2001 Acura. Authorities soon realized that the location of the vehicle was a chop shop, and further investigation led to four other chop shops in Southern California. Detectives recovered seven stolen cars, a stolen motorcycle, and parts and accessories to several other stolen cars, and arrested seven suspects.  This was the 400th chop shop busted in the state of California.

Professional Thieves Disable GPS Tracking Systems, but Not LoJack

When the owner of a BMW 745i reported his car stolen to police, the NYPD Manhattan South Auto Larceny Unit was able to pick up the LoJack signal installed in the car. It led them to an underground parking garage, where they discovered an additional four vehicles, including two BMWs, a Cadillac Escalade and a Mercedes S240. The thieves had previously disabled the GPS systems in these cars but did not know there was a LoJack system   hidden in the  BMW 745i. All the vehicles were returned to their owners without damage.

Three Stolen Mercedes  Prepared for Exportation Recovered in Less Than 10 minutes

When an individual acquired three Mercedes-Benz vehicles with a check that had “non-sufficient funds at an auction, the California Highway Patrol Inland Division determined that the cars were stolen.  Within 10 minutes, officers from the Oakland Police Department began to pick up a LoJack signal from one of the Mercedes and followed it to a large container ship that was docked and in the process of being loaded for overseas shipment. 

With the assistance of the LoJack Law Enforcement Liaison and U.S. Custom/Borders Protection, the three Mercedes were located on the ship and recovered. The total retail value of the vehicles was $136,000.

Fraud Credit Card Doesn’t Fool LoJack

 A rental car company contacted the Miami Police Department after realizing that two Lamborghinis had been rented with a fraudulent credit card. About 70 minutes after they were reported   stolen, Miami Beach PD picked up on a LoJack signal and followed it to an underground parking garage. Both vehicles were found, and the total value of the recovery was $370,000.
