Light Tower Mistakenly Taken by Another Company on Busy Construction Area; LoJack Helps Police Bring It Back to Rightful Owner

After law enforcement was notified that a 2007 Multiquip Light Tower was stolen from its owner, they entered the theft into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computers. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack System covertly installed on the Light Tower.
Just 15 minutes after the Light Tower was reported stolen and entered into the NCIC computers, detectives with the Community Effort to Combat Auto Theft unit picked up the LoJack signal from their Police Tracking Computers. LAPD’s “Air 16” unit was also notified and they tracked the stolen equipment to an area of 405 Freeway and Skirball Center Drive. Ground units from LAPD West Valley, along with detectives from the Community Effort to Combat Auto Theft unit, responded to the area.
The equipment was located at a construction site — in a storage area — where another company was working on the 405 Freeway. The other company had mistakenly taken the Light Tower as both companies were working on a large construction area on the 405 Freeway. The owner of Light Tower was notified and they responded to the location to retrieve their equipment.
